Assessment Levels
Starter
Pre-A1: Your English journey starts here. You can recognise everyday words and simple greetings, and you are ready to build the solid foundation that your studies, career and travels will rely on.
Beginner
You can introduce yourself, share basic personal details and handle simple everyday exchanges, such as ordering food or asking for directions. It is a confident first step towards using English in your studies, at work and when you travel.
Elementary
You can hold routine conversations about familiar topics, from your studies and work to shopping, transport and hotel bookings. You are building the practical English that makes academic life, the workplace and travel feel more natural.
Intermediate
You can follow the main points of lectures, meetings and discussions on familiar topics, deal with most situations while travelling, and explain your experiences, plans and opinions. You are now an independent user of English, taking part with growing confidence.
Upper Intermediate
You can discuss complex and technical topics in your field, present and defend a point of view, and communicate fluently with colleagues, clients and the people you meet abroad. This is the level many academic programmes and employers look for.
Advanced
You use English flexibly and precisely in academic, professional and social settings, from writing reports and research to leading meetings and interviews, and you feel at home wherever you travel. You grasp implied meaning and express complex ideas with ease.
